Doctoral Colloquium Coordination | ETHZ | April 2019

The SHARELAND Doctoral Colloquium, as a linked event to the ETH Forum Wohnungsbau 2019, brought together 24 Doctoral students researching on topics related to land.

The critical point of departure holds that access to land – serviced land in particular – is crucial for sustainable urban development, and that the availability of land will determine the way our cities and neighbourhoods will grow, develop and expand; whether they will be able to absorb demographic growth, and how they will cope with the pressure for new uses and demands from businesses, services, entertainment, housing, transportation, conservation and beyond.

Selected participants came from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, design, humanities and arts, sociology, economy, ecology and urbanisation. Speakers included Prof. Saskia Sassen and UN Official Claudio Acioly.

This Colloquium is part of a conference series organised in collaboration with the the Hub on Informal Urbanism of UNI (UN-Habitat’s Partnership with Universities Worldwide) and supported by the ISTP (Institute of Science, Technology and Policy), D-ARCH (Faculty of Architecture of ETH Zurich, Chair of Architecture and Urban Design, Profs. Alfredo Brillembourg & Hubert Klumpner) and NSL (Network City and Landscape).
